Many residents, myself included woke up this morning to quite the odor in the air.
Apparently, the foul smell is related to a backed up sewage system.
Residents began complaining of a “sewage smell” early Monday morning and phone calls began streaming in to utility offices.
Thanks to hurricane Irma, the city’s sewage system is backed up and additional rains and people beginning to get back to normal routines has overwhelmed the system.
The City of Orlando is asking that residents conserve water until further notice by limiting the use of dishwashers, sinks, washing machines, showers, and toilets.
A spill occurred near the Mills Park area where raw sewage spilled into Lake Formosa.
A Lake Alert is in place for all Central Florida water bodies until further notice, and residents are asked to cease all activities on or near waterways, including the use of lake-fed irrigation systems.
As the saying goes, “If it’s yellow, let it mellow, if it’s brown, flush it down.” Gross…but unfortunately necessary to help prevent further spills.
