Kendrick Lamar kicked off the MTV Video Music Awards last night with a killer performance.
Did you see the shade that 5th Harmony threw at the VMA’s last night? Not only did they throw shade in the pre-show when being interviewed, but they also threw shade during their performance.
The girls were asked if they would share the win with the 5th member that is no longer with them (Camilla Cabello). The girls all remained quiet except for Normani who answered, “No, we will actually thank our choreographer since the award is for best choreographer.” The host then followed that with, “OHH SHADE!”.
Later when the girl performed on stage, it appeared as if there were 5 girls on stage. One turned out to be an “Extra” and was “kicked off” (jumped) stage leaving only the 4 girls left for the performance. I wonder if the other musicians and artists there last night thought that was petty.
Logic put on a meaningful performance of “1-800” with Alessia Cara and Khalid.
He was accompanied by many individuals who turned out to be suicide survivors. Black, white, male, female, gay, stright, Christian…individuals who all stood on stage as one wearing t shirts with the suicide prevention hotline number on the front.
Logic, himself wore a shirt that said “Everybody” and had a very special message about equality at the end of the performance.
Pink won the Video Vanguard Award (presented by Ellen), but instead of talking about herself or her music, she told a story about how her daughter, Willow called herself “the ugliest girl I know,” saying she thinks she looks like a boy with long hair.
Pink went on to explain to her daughter about some amazing androgynous musicians like Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, and Elton John. She also explained to her daughter how she was made fun of as well for looking like a boy or being too masculine. After many words of encouragement and love she said, “We don’t change. We take the gravel in the shell and make a pearl…And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.”
Willow WAS actually in the audience, with her dad CAREY HART. All three were wearing suits. It was adorable. Her performance, by the way was AMAZING!
Demi Lovato slayed at a “pool party” and has never looked better.
Ed Sheeran had a great performance of SHAPE OF YOU as usual. Then there was a colaboration between Ed Sheeran and Lil Uzi Vert.
Jared Leto was out in full force last night as well, but not with his acting buddies. He attended the awards with pride and a great performance.
Your host, Katy Perry performed SWISH SWISH with Nikki Minaj. No, there wasn’t a duet with Taylor Swift like we were promised.
Lorde decided NOT to sing, but did an interpretive dance of sorts.
Taylor Swift premiered her new video for her latest release LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO and it was OUTSTANDING!!!!
