There’s a BIG chance you’ll be hanging out tonight with all the Cinco de Mayo celebrations going on around town. So I’m here to make sure you know youe stuff or at least sound like you do with three facts!
1. It’s NOT. I repeat it’s not Mexico’s independence. That’s in September. The holiday celebrates an unexpected victory. The holiday actually celebrates the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
2. Americans consume up to 81 million avocados on Cinco de Mayo of course on all that yummy guacamole!
3. Cinco de Mayo is a bigger deal here in the U.S. than it is in Mexico although the holiday has gone global thanks in part to social media.
