In Frozen, characters Flynn and Rapunzel were in the crowd of people for Elsa’s coronation. Viewers took their presence as a suggestion that Elsa and Anna’s parents died in a shipwreck on their way to Germany for Rapunzel’s wedding.
Ariel gets put into this because Elsa and Anna’s parents’ shipwreck is the same one that the mermaid comes across in the film in the middle of Germany and Norway. Rapunzel’s appearance at Elsa’s coronation was simply out of respect for her parents.
