Becky G is now the first LGBT super hero to star in a big budget movie!
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the accomplished singer is playing Trini, the yellow ranger in the new Power Rangers reboot, and in the movie she will be coming to terms with her sexuality.
“For Trini, really she’s questioning a lot about who she is,” Power Rangers director Dean Israelite told THR. “She hasn’t fully figured it out yet. I think what’s great about that scene and what that scene propels for the rest of the movie is, ‘That’s OK.’ The movie is saying, ‘That’s OK,’ and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe.”
Apparently, the popular 90’s show already had LGBT representation since David Yost, the original blue ranger, is gay. When it comes to Trini’s story line in the movie, Yost said this:
“I think so many people in the LGBTQI community are going to be excited to see that representation.”
Power Rangers opens theaters this Friday, but you can check out the trailer above.
