Remembering Notorious B.I.G. On The 20th Anniversary Of His Death

By: Danie B

Can you believe that today is the 20th year anniversary of the death of the Notorious BIG?

Yep, March 9, 1997 was the day that Christopher Wallace was shot and killed, but his legacy continues to live on.

We’ve heard the music, we’ve seen the movie, and 20 years later we’re all still able to relate to the stories he told with his melodic word play.

I can still relate to the disbelief he expressed in Juicy at how much his life had changed at the realization of his dream, or the cautionary tale he raps about in Mo Money Mo Problems, or the inspiration he put out into the universe in Sky Is The Limit.

These songs are classics, not just because Biggie rapped them, but because he was able to relate to people all over the world and he did so with the style of soul singer.

So the next time you’re out in the club, riding around in your car, or listening to Pandora and you hear that steady hi-hat that starts of Juicy or the sick baseline that draws you in to Hypnotize. Lose yourself in the narrative of the story he’s telling you, and appreciate the genius of how Biggie gave you content, melody and just made you feel good all at the same time.

“Uh, damn right I like the life I live/’Cause I went from negative to positive/And it’s all…/(It’s all good)/…and if you don’t know, now you know.”

Shoutout @JC.RO!! This Biggie piece is dope. #WeMissYouBIG
