People Of Color Shine Through 2017 Oscars Nominations

Well, it looks as if the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite will not be making a social media appearance this year.

Yes, La La Land is leading the pack with a total of 14 Oscar nominations, but people of color are making a big splash in the Oscar pool this year with movies like Hidden Figures, Fences and Moonlight gaining multiple nominations.

First off, Viola Davis made history becoming the first African American woman to earn three Oscar nominations in a lifetime. This year she’s nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Fences. Fences picked up 3 other nominations in the category of Best Actor (Denzel Washington), Best Picture, and Best Writing Adapted Screenplay.

Hidden Figures was nominated for Best Picture, Best Writing Adapted Screen Play, and Octavia Spencer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

The critically acclaimed film, Moolinght is nominated for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Writing Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Music Score.

The 89th Oscar Awards will air Sunday Feb 26, on ABC.
