Kanye West promised the follow-up to last year’s Yeezus would be out this year. But ‘Ye’s been busy, you know, getting married, honeymooning in Ireland and gearing up for his big Bonnaroo return, which happened this weekend, rants and all.

What he hasn’t had a lot of time for though is recording. But thanks to a new interview with Rick Rubin we’re getting a few details of where Kanye is at currently with his upcoming project.

Rubin sat down with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe for a four-part interview airing today (June 16) and tomorrow and confirmed that yes, he is working on Kanye’s new album.

According to NME, Rubin said that Yeezy was coming by his California recording studio that same day as the interview to start “looking at vocal ideas for things for the next album.”

Though one could attest that sounds like Kanye is really only in the early stages of recording, Rubin tells a story about working with Kanye on Yeezus, which makes it clear, ‘Ye doesn’t need that much time to make a masterpiece.
