2013 was a really interesting year for music and pop culture. Some really good and bad things happened, and I’m going to take a look at some of those moments. These are not numbered as some of the other lists I will post this week, just some of the more memorable moments of the year.
Jimmy Kimmel trolls the world:
When I saw this video, I knew something was up as it was setup too perfectly, but I surely wasn’t expecting this. Quick rundown, a video of a girl twerking, when someone opens the door, and she falls through a coffee table and her leg catches fire. The story was then reported all over the news, about the “dangers of twerking,” come to find out it was all setup by Jimmy Kimmel.
Miley Cyrus & Robin Thicke’s MTV VMA performance:
Speaking of twerking how could we not include this in here? It was like watching a car wreck, you just couldn’t take your eyes off it. As a matter of fact I kept this on my DVR the whole week after and watched it every day that week for a good laugh. I am a big fan of “Breaking Bad,” and the night of the VMAs was the “Confession,” episode and some highly intelligent person put together this viral video.
Beyonce releases a surprise “visual album:”
Beyonce broke the internet last week with one Instagram post. All year people having been talking about/speculating about when “King Bey’s” album was going to be released. Then on a random December Friday morning this post showed up on Instagram and 617,000 digital copies later, the rest as they say is history.
Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake go hashtag crazy:
As someone who is guilty of overusing hashtags on Twitter, this video hit home lol. I don’t care how stupid it sounds when you read them out loud, they’re #my #tweets and I’ll #hashtag if I want to #haha.
Miguel’s AMA leg drop:
Miguel had my favorite song of 2012, and this year he performed that song “Adorn,” during this years American Music Awards. Well apparently he either caught the holy ghost (or channelled his inner Hulk Hogan) and tried to jump from one stage to another. Well, that probably wasn’t the best idea since he wound up leg dropping one woman in the audience and kicking another in the head. The memes that followed were hilarious.
Amanda Bynes on Twitter:
Amanda Bynes had an interesting year on Twitter, she went after everyone from the President Obama and the first lady Michelle, to Rihanna, to fellow child star (who’s going through her own issues) Miley Cyrus, to even Drake. I think the tweet below takes the cake, especially since she earlier tweeted that Drizzy looked like he had down syndrome, and saying that he had the ugliest smile.

Ke$ha drinks her own urine on MTV:
We always knew that Ke$ha was out there, but this was pretty damn weird…. Even for her. She had a documentary Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life documentary on MTV, one one episode it came out that a friend of a friend drank their own urine, so she volunteered to do the same, on camera. Don’t believe me? Watch for yourself.
Lady Gaga and Christina Aguliera unite for The Voice:
For years and years it was rumored that Lady Gaga and Christina Aguliera were beefing, which is not something that usually happens in pop music. Well we found out last Tuesday night that the pair never met until the season finale of The Voice. The pair united for a surprise performance of Gaga’s hit single “Do What U Want.”
