Snoop Lion (formerly Snoop Dogg) is the latest artist to speak out against gun violence after the U.S. Senate defeated a bipartisan measure to pose background checks for U.S. gun sales last Wednesday (April 17).

Following reactions last week from artists like Ted Nugent, John Legend and The Decemberists in response to the ruling, Snoop is tapping into his fans to kick it up a notch. In an essay for The Boombox, the rapper introduced his new “No Guns Allowed” movement, named for his Reincarnated song with Drake.

Snoop explained that in the wake of last week’s events in Boston, “Right now feels like the right time for us all to come together to stop the violence, which is why I started the ‘No Guns Allowed’ movement.”

His message is backed by the League of Young Voters Education Fund, which is hosting a petition to push universal background checks and funding for violence prevention programs.

“‘No Guns Allowed’ is a call to action for people everywhere to come together and help end the senseless gun violence that claims lives every day,” wrote the rapper. “I’m not saying I’m against guns, but I’m saying that people need to think about their actions and be responsible for them.”
