Lauryn Hill Ordered To Pay $504,000 In Back Taxes In Two Weeks

Lauryn Hill was scheduled to appear in court today (April 22) for failing to file taxes on $1.8 million in past income. According to the New Jersey Star-Ledger, her sentencing was postponed to May 6.

This doesn’t mean Hill is off the hook just yet, though.

While U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Cox Arleo postponed the hearing, she gave Hill two weeks to pay $504,000 in back taxes. If Hill doesn’t pay the back taxes before her next court hearing, she could face between 24-30 months in jail.

“At sentencing, we will be seeking lenience from the judge based on who Ms. Hill is, what she has done positively in the past, what she does in the present, and what we hope she will be doing in the future,” Hill’s attorney Nathan J. Hochman previously told “She is fully committed to paying back all her tax obligations going forward.”
