The blind auditions section of The Voice have been particularly hard on new girl Shakira. Time after time, she’s lost contestants to veteran coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, as well as fellow newbie Usher. But last night, Shakira pulled out everything she had to win over soulful singer Luke Edgemon, including an hilarious impersonation of Usher.
Usher kept his pleas simple, saying, “I’ve been waiting for a voice to really move me and you did your thing.” But when it came Shakira’s turn, she pulled out all the stops, including a mildly heated exchange with Usher.
“I would be thrilled if I could have you on my team because your voice is phenomenal. And you’re probably thinking that Usher is your man, but I’m your girl. I’m not an R&B singer, I know that, but you know, he’s not going to teach you how to sing R&B,” Shakira said, countered by Usher saying, “No, I’ll teach you to be great, man.”
But it was Shakira’s impression of Usher’s classic sitting pose, with one foot propped on the seat (which she had mocked earlier in the season), that brought down the house and eventually won Edgemon over. Take a look below. The verbal battle begins at the 2:21 mark.
