The Super Bowl may hold some strange memories for Justin Timberlake after the controversy surrounding his performance with Janet Jackson in 2004, but a pre-Super Bowl bash sponsored by DirecTV is where Timberlake made his live musical comeback last night after almost five years.

Backed by a 10-piece-band dubbed JT and the Tennessee Kids, and dressed in a tux, Timberlake gave the star-studded audience, which included Paul McCartney, The Vampire Diaries stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, and Nina Dobrev, Matt Bomer, and more, an hour long retrospective of his career as well as a sneak peek at two more songs from his upcoming CD The 20/20 Experience.

Timberlake was also joined onstage by Jay-Z and Timbaland, who are featured on his current single “Suit & Tie.”

In addition to his own tunes, Timberlake also performed covers including INXS’ “What You Need” and the Jackson classic “Shake Your Body Down To The Ground.”

Timberlake will continue his comeback with a performance at The GRAMMYs next Sunday. The 20/20 Experience is set to be released later in March.
