After Tweeting a cryptic message to watch his account at 9:01AM PST on Thursday, January 10, Justin Timberlake has revealed that he is ready to once again create new music. In a YouTube message, posted to a countown, the singer takes fans on a narrated walk, culminating when he slips on a pair of headphones, steps behind a mic and says, “I’m ready.”

This follows years of interviews in which Timberlake announced he was not ready, that he preferred to star in films instead. But now, fans can expect to hear a new song from him in three days — according to the countdown clock on his website.

“Look, I’ve only done two albums in ten years. That’s the way I really look at it. What does the next decade mean for me?” Timberlake asks, raising a good point. When he last released an album, in 2006, the first iPhones and iPads had not yet been released. Justin Bieber hadn’t been discovered on YouTube. Hulu didn’t exist and only 1.2% of U.S. households had a DVR. Facebook had only recently opened to the public at large. In short: it’s a whole new world. Where will Timberlake fit into it?

There is no confirmation at this time, but rumors indicate Timberlake will again work with longtime producer Timbaland. The producer has stayed active in Timberlake’s time off, working on tracks that made it onto Chris Brown’s F.A.M.E., David Guetta’s Nothing But The Beat, Demi Lovato’s Unbroken, Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream and Drake’s Thank Me Later. Timberlake is also a primary investor in MySpace, which has gotten a redesign and refocus in the music space. Timberlake acted as the face of the company at a press event in November, showing off the newly redesigned site.
