Brian McKnight has returned with a softer touch and a new video, “Sweeter.” Instead of teaching females x-rated lessons, he’s again showing the beauty a love brings to life.
“The sky is so much bluer now, since you came into my life, girl,” he sings, “The sun shines so much brighter now, since you opened up my eyes girl/ Everything in my life is sweeter, sweeter, all because of you…”
Back in October McKnight revealed that his album would be titled Words and who would join him on the title track.
“Just finished writing with @ColbieCaillat the title track of my new cd called words gonna record it tonight !!!!,” he tweeted.
The new song is a far cry from the video for “If You’re Ready to Learn,” a controversial ditty McKnight recorded in April 2012. “If You’re Ready to Learn” showcases a traditional McKnight melody with lyrics that represent a departure from the love songs he is known for penning.
The sexually explicit track shocked many longtime fans who supported the 16-time Grammy nominee known for his romantic R&B hits.
But everybody didn’t feel like it was bad idea. Singer Anthony David, thought McKnight’s naughty take was in good taste.
“I can appreciate that Brian McKnight did that tune,” David recently told Radio.com. “I appreciate what it’s like when people put you in that box. It’s like, I’m a grown man I’m the one who should be singing about this…I thought it was funny and I thought it was fun, I salute that guy for that.
