Rihanna was the queen of pop music this year! Between finding time to patch things up with Chris Brown, she also released a ton of hit songs. Fresh off of “We Found Love”, in early 2012 Rihanna released “You Da One” and “Talk That Talk” which also featured her old mentor Jay-Z. Both songs had moderate success but it was her leaked remix version of “Birthday Cake” featuring ex boyfriend Chris Brown that blew up on the music scene.
“Birthday Cake” sparked a ton of rumors about the couple but Riri didn’t miss a beat and followed up by releasing “Where Have You Been?”. The song put her back on top and I’m sure you can remember it being played over and over again on 102 jamz 🙂
On November 19th she released her 7th album ‘Unapologetic’ and debuted her first single off the album, “Diamonds”. I was unsure about the song at first but it quickly grew to be one of my favorite Rihanna songs of the year!
In 2013 she should be releasing a new single off the album… That’s if she can break away from ex Chris Brown. The two were spotted over the holiday break getting cozy at a basketball game and even holding hands. Either way, Rihanna hands down was the biggest artist of 2012 and I’m sure 2013 will be no different for the pop star.
Don’t forget you can catch her on The Diamonds World Tour, April 19th at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
