Bobby V doesn’t stray too far from his R&B roots. And if he had his way, the world would be ringing in the new year and celebrating Christmas with a soulful sound.
“I would bless the people for the holidays with R& B music,” he said when asked which music he would give as stocking stuffers. “Elle Varner would be one album [I’d give] because I’ve done a few shows with her,” he told CBS Local. “She can really sing. She’s making really good soul music.”
Bobby also heaped hefty praise upon “Adorn” singer Miguel.
“I like what he’s doing as far as the R&B game. Not really following the stream. Really doing him, I love that.”
But Bobby V would share, most of all, music from his predecessors.
“I would go old school: Jodeci, Boyz II Men, Isley Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Tony! Toni! Toné!, Babyface,” he said. “All of these people, so [others] can know where R&B comes from and where it is now.”
Not just a student of the 90s R&B, Bobby V envisions himself as a throwback to the bygone era.
“I sure wish I was an artist during that 90’s era, I would be top notch No. 1. R&B during 90s and 80s,” he said. “Anita Baker really made R&B music. I wish it was that line up now, that we can have so many R&B artists but it is scarce right now.”
Along with all the music he said the world should groove to, he also named his own album Dusk Till Dawn as a gift for all because, “it is Amazing,” he joked. “Might I toot my own horn. Toot Toot.”
