The hip-hop mogul-turned-boxing promoter has hired investigators to look into the reported suicide of his manager Lighty, who was behind such names as Mariah Carey, LL Cool J, and Missy Elliott. At the request of Lighty’s mother, the Queens rapper has put together a team to investigate the circumstances behind his death, according to MyfoxNY.
The Bronx native died in August at the age of 44 amid doubts that Lighty actually committed suicide.
“Chris has been an important part of my business and personal growth for a decade,” 50 said of Lighty. “He was a good friend and advisor who helped me develop as an artist and businessman. My prayers are with his family. He will be greatly missed.”
Other Lighty family members have also expressed their disbelief that Lighty took his own life.
“I want the truth to come out,” said Chris Lighty’s brother Dave. “This isn’t my brother. My brother was a strong person…nothing is adding up. I can’t get a direct answer from anybody…I understand there’s a process to be followed. I can’t even get clear answers from people I think I should be getting clear answers from.”—Keith Murphy, CBS Local
