R. Kelly Trapped Under Weight Of New Tax Bill

Uncle Sam is not finished with R. Kelly just yet. Along with his previous bill, the R&B singer is now on the hook for more than $1 million in back taxes for the year 2011.

The specific number he owes for last year is $1,379,695.11, according to TMZ. The new figure piles onto Kelly’s IRS debt of $4,848,072.71 in unpaid taxes from 2005-2010. His entire tax bill is now more than $6 million.

“He takes this very seriously and is already communicating with the IRS about the payment process to quickly resolve the issue,” an R. Kelly spokesperson told TMZ.

For his part, Kelly seems to be working to repay his debt. The Grammy winning singer, who recently released his back-to-basics effort Write Me Back, is already plotting a more explicit return-to-form with his upcoming project Black Panties. And he will be kicking off his Single Ladies tour on Oct. 13 in Columbia, S.C.

He recently announced a reload of his Trapped in the Closet series, which he will reportedly bring back later this year.—Keith Murphy, CBS Local
