Travis Barker refers to Yelawolf as his “brother from another mother.” Tattooed from head to toe and lovers of all music, together they call themselves Psycho White and they’ve just revealed their debut EP’s track list and organic beginnings.

After hearing a few of the songs, Yelawolf’s friend Newport said of the tracks, “That’s some psycho whiteboy sh*t!” From then on, the collaboration between the Blink-182 drummer and Shady Records recording artist would be known as Psycho White.

According to Barker, he and Yelawolf had been playing around in studio on and off over the past year and a half, with no intentions of creating an album. Barker was in the midst of recording with The Transplants when he shared a few beats with Yelawolf. The rapper showed an interest in a particularly reggae-inspired track and before they knew it, five songs had been recorded, ultimately becoming the self-titled EP.

CBS Local caught up with the duo on the set of the Red Bull-funded music video for the EP’s first single, “Push ‘Em.” 48 hours earlier, Barker tweeted a request for all “Punks/Psychos/tattooed freaks/Hip-hopheads” to RSVP for the Jason Goldwatch-directed video shoot. And that they did. About a hundred tattoo-covered fans showed up ready to party and they weren’t going to be slowed by the sticky 110° heat of the rented South Central L.A. warehouse.

While stage lights were being set, Barker and Yelawolf explained that the EP contains five songs with a few featuring vocals from The Transplants’ Skinhead Rob and Tim Armstrong as well as Michael Myers and Superman. Yelawolf describes each track as having a different vibe, saying the EP is an “ill mashup of ideas.”

Psycho White Track List

1. “Push ‘Em” (Ft. Skinhead Rob, Tim Armstrong)

2. 6 Feet Underground (Ft. Tim Armstrong)

3. Funky Sh*t

4. Whistle Dixie

5. Directors Cut (Ft. Michael Myers, Superman)

Because there was no concerted effort to make an actual album, every song recorded ended up on the E.P. There were no tracks left behind. “We didn’t even know if the music was going to come out. We were just gettin’ in the lab and making music together,” confesses Barker.

Psycho White’s self-titled E.P. is due late October or early November through Barker’s Famous Stars & Straps clothing company.
