When you can’t talk, tweet. That’s what Nicki Minaj has been doing. After canceling a performance at U.K.’s V Festival due to damaged vocal chords, the silenced rapper took to Twitter to connect with her fans. There, she was as loud and vocal as ever.

In a series of tweets on Monday (August 20), Minaj gave her followers some insight into her condition. The outspoken rapper took a large part of the blame for overworking her voice.

She informed fans about the medicine she took (“The chewable stuff is GAG flow, but the pills are okay”),  and the procedures she was getting done (“Okay Barbz, getting another x-ray”). And when asked if she was in pain, she replied:

Minaj canceled the show on Friday (August 17) while boarding the plane to the U.K. Today she defended her decision.

“I was in jeopardy of losing my voice entirely and needing surgery on my vocal chord,” she tweeted. “If you can’t understand that, your mother’s a w***!!!”

This is not the first major American act to drop out of the V Fest this year. Frank Ocean previously called off his European tour, which included a stop at V Fest.

“Let me start by saying I feel like an a**hole right now,” Ocean said of the show cancellations. “But a tough decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next months and the casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming festivals in Europe and my opening slot on the European leg of the Coldplay world tour. Sorry as f***, I’ll be back if you’ll have me.”

While Minaj received positive messages from actress Jackée Harry and singer Jordan Sparks, she focused most of her attention on her Barbz.

Among the V Fest performers this year was LMFAO, The Killers, David Guetta, Ed Sheeran and more. Minaj said her doctor advised her to rest her voice for two or three more days. –Erik Parker, CBS Local
