2 Chainz To Top Album Sales With “Based On A T.R.U. Story”

2 Chainz may not have reached his goal of a million Twitter followers, but the buzz-heavy Atlanta rapper is set to hit another milestone. Early reports predict that 2 Chainz’s Based on a T.R.U. Story is on course to debut at the top of the sales charts.

The “No Lie” rapper is predicted to move between 130k -140k copies according to Hits Daily Double. For 2 Chainz, the achievement represents a long struggle to the top. As a member of Ludacris’ Disturbing The Peace collective in the early 2000’s, the artist formerly known as Tity Boi was largely unknown. Even after he found moderate success as one-half of the rap duo Playaz Circle, Chainz had an uphill battle persuading record labels to take him seriously as a solo act.

But after a barrage of well-received mixtapes and features on hit tracks by such superstars as Young Jeezy (“SupaFreak”); Nicki Minaj (“Beez in the Trap”); and Kanye West (“Mercy”), the ATL spitter has suddenly became a wanted man.

If the numbers hold up, 2 Chainz’ Based on a T.R.U. Story will continue a steady rollout of No. 1s for Def Jam, joining previous chart-toppers including Nas (Life Is Good),  Rick Ross (God Forgives, I Don’t). —Keith Murphy, CBS Local
