Nicki Minaj Celebrates Carnivàle In “Pound The Alarm”
Nicki Minaj just released her Carnivàle-themed video for “Pound the Alarm.” The clip shows off her native Trinidad with a Caribbean-style celebration full of fireworks, feathers and confetti.
The video features Minaj performing for a group of flashy carnival-goers in colorful costumes with elaborate headpieces and accessories.
The opening seconds show a montage of clips highlighting Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago’s most developed city; the picturesque beaches of Trinidad; and a mix of soft steel drum beats set to crystal waters. When the dance track kicks in, the city’s vibrant culture quickly transforms it into the perfect backdrop for Minaj’s colorful party.
In a behind the scenes video, Minaj shares her excitement to film the fourth Roman Reloaded single in her homeland as she prepares before the shoot.
“Oh my god,” she says in the clip. “I never thought in a million years I would ever do this.”
Her over-the-top feathered outfit in the video is probably miles away from the the clothing line she plans to release next year, but don’t expect that to be quite what you’re used to seeing in the stories either. Minaj told Rolling Stone that the line, which will launch through Macy’s, is in the works and will mirror her unique style.
“It’ll be Harajuku Barbie, put it that way,” she said in the interview. “I’m really looking forward to it because I feel like my fans are always asking me, ‘Where’d you get this? Where’d you get that?’”
Minaj added that she wanted to avoid inflated price tags in order to make the pieces accessible to the average fan.
“My biggest goal was to make a line that was going to be affordable to my fans and also rich enough in quality that they’ll feel like they’re wearing exactly what I’m wearing,” she said. “I’m really excited about that.”
Minaj expects to release more details on the line, including its name, on Twitter in the coming weeks. Her debut fragrance with Give Back Brands, the company behind Justin Bieber’s scent, Someday, will launch in September.
