50 Cent Talks TMT Boxing Plans, Focuses On Different “Ethnicities”
Following the knockout news that 50 Cent had been granted a boxing promoter’s license to operate The Money Team (TMT), the outspoken MC explained how he connected with friend and boxing champ business partner Floyd Mayweather.
50 gave Mayweather credit for the idea. The controversial boxer “wanted to develop a company for himself and for other talent that can execute things without having to be within a traditional situation where you have to completely watch your back, 24/7,” 50 told RingTV.
The 50 Cent-Mayweather venture recently signed talented Australian featherweight belt holder Billy Dib. Also under contract is former featherweight champ Yuri Gamboa as well as super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell.
For 50, The Money Team’s roster of fighters is all about diversity.
“There are fighters with all different ethnicities,” he continued. “He’s Arabic, so there really hasn’t been that much of a focus on the fact that they [Arabic community] have a champion with Dib. So it’s about actually having a platform where you can actually reach the masses and have people in general to identify with his talents, and that’s what we’re planning to do.”
But according to 50, there is a particular pedigree of boxer that TMT is looking for.
“Are you after a specific amount of money, or are you after something that within your legacy allows you to be someone that is remembered for more than just great projects that you’ve participated in. It becomes about helping people in a different way.”
On the music front, 50 Cent is still making noise. The Get Rich or Die Tryin’ spitter recently dropped “New Day,” a single featuring Dr. Dre and Alicia Keys. You can listen to “New Day” here.
