Katy Perry: Part Of Me hits theaters July 5th, or as Katy would say, “right after 4th of July, after you’ve blown your hand off, but you still have your eyes and your ears.” Imagine reading Katy’s secret diary, following her backstage behind the curtain, sharing her triumphs, craziness and passion. This is what this 3D film is all about.

Why did Katy feel it was so important to do this project? She “could feel tremors of something coming.”

Katy sat down with B96/ Chicago at her exclusive pool party in Beverly Hills this weekend to shed light on her movie and why it’s becoming such a huge deal. Katy shared, “I had an idea for this film, or just to document the whole process of last year because in December of 2010, I brought out these guys who worked with me on the ‘Firework’ video. They were such cool cinematographers; they filmed everything, and I was like, ‘I want you to go on tour with me the whole year because I feel like something big is happening, and I want to document it. I want to remember it for the rest of my life, and maybe show it to the people that like me in some capacity, like my fans.'”

It may seem like Katy’s got the whole celebrity, record-breaking artist thing down, but when it comes to Hollywood and the movie biz, she’s a newbie. “Right now I’m in the process of approving billboards, ‘Billboards!’ It’s a whole new world. I feel like I’m more of a seasoned person about music than I was five years ago. But the movie industry is a new thing for me. Every day is a new experience,” Katy revealed.

If anyone set an example for what this doc should be, it was Madonna. Katy gushed about her love for the Queen of Pop, explaining, “I wanted to show people behind the curtain of what I do. I love learning about a person, and how they got to where they are. One of my favorite documentaries is Madonna’s Truth or Dare. I have always loved Madonna because I loved her music. When I watched that, I felt, ‘Oh my god, she’s a real person.’ And I connected with her. I love her sense of humor. I’d hang out with her friends. She made me feel like I could do what she did.”

This entire idea wouldn’t even have come into being without the insane success that Katy Perry has had in the past 2 years. Not many people can claim that they have one of the biggest albums of all time, or more number one singles than any artist.

Katy’s intuition always kicks in when she’s in the middle of her creative process. She humbly admitted that she had big hopes for the record California Dreams. “It’d be bit arrogant of me to say I knew, but I had a feeling. I have this feeling whenever I write a song. If I think a song has legs enough to be popular or really have people respond to it, I get these feelings. It’s almost like Christmas Eve jitters. I had that same feeling about this record.”

Katy Perry: Part of Me began production over a year ago, following her on her 124-date California Dreams tour.
