UCF Students Join Lip Dub Craze With One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful”
One Direction‘s “What Makes You Beautiful” is one of the hottest songs in the country and the 1D phenomenon seems to show no signs of dying out anytime soon. Just as we’ve seen with Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” “What Makes You Beautiful” is the perfect song for a lip dub.
Several UCF students recently brought their “What Makes You Beautiful” lip dub to our attention. In the video, Rebecca Bormel, Brittany Vasile, Olivia White, Quinn Zagorc, and Brittany Zimmerman dance their way around the University of Central Florida campus to the strains of the One Direction smash.
High schools throughout the country are also big with lip dub videos, often times employing the “one shot” camera technique like these students from Toms River High School East in Toms River, New Jersey.
Even junior high school students are getting in on the action.
While it’s not as “professionally” produced as some of the others, these office workers seem to be having a great time channeling their inner boy band.
The need to emulate 1D is definitely a world wide trend, as evidenced by The Necktie Boys.
Sometimes all it takes is one person and multiple screens to make an engaging lip dub.
YouTube’s “justaskinnyboy” takes the song into “Chipmunk” territory with his version.
One of the oldest “What Makes You Beautiful” lip dubs on YouTube was created as a celebration of the new year.
And perhaps the most “commercial” version was the one created by the cast of the Roundabout Theatre Company’s Anything Goes to bring attention to the show currently playing through September at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Broadway.
