Lil Wayne‘s mother Jacida “Cita” Carter jumped the broom this weekend. Toya Carter, the rapper’s ex, revealed the ceremony’s details, including how Baby and Wayne shared the duties of escorting the bride down the aisle.
“Yeah, I went to Wayne’s mom’s wedding,” Toya Carter told Ryan Camron of Atlanta’s V-103. The mother of Wayne’s oldest child said Anita Baker was on hand to perform at the wedding. “She was great. I was like, Wow, she really did her thing.”
According to Toya, the wedding took place in Gretna, Louisiana, on the West bank of the Mississippi River and across from New Orleans’ Uptown.
“It was a big wedding about 350 – 400 people,” Carter said. “They had the second line. That second line and everything gave me life,” she continued, describing the tradition of N.O. brass band parades where the “second line” refers to the revelers who follow the sounds throughout the parade route. “You have your handkerchief and your umbrella and you’re just dancing and partying and haveing a good time. My husband and a few other people were like, ‘What are they doing?'”
On Saturday (April 14) Lil Wayne tweeted his excitement, referring to his mom by the nickname he calls her on some of his records.

When asked who walked the bride down the aisle, Carter said Wayne shared the duties with his label head and father figure, Baby.
“Yes he walked his mom down,” she said. “Him and baby. Baby started then he gave her to Wayne, then he followed behind. It was so sweet.”
Antonia “Toya” Carter, author of the best selling book Priceless Inspirations, was Lil Wayne’s childhood sweetheart and the two share a teenaged daughter Reginae Carter. Last year Toya married record exec and producer Mikey “MempHitz” Wright.
