According to autopsy results, his death was caused by a pulmonary emobolism (or, in layman’s terms, a blood clot in the lungs).
According to Craig Harvey, chief of the Los Angeles County department of coroner, the blood clot was “most likely formed during an extended airplane ride”.
The coroner’s office also found that he suffered from deep leg vein thrombosis and heart disease. Upon his death it was initially thought that he may have died due to complications of pneumonia since he had prescribed cough medication in his system.
Heavy D, who was born Dwight Arrington Myers, was 44 years old when he died.
