[photogallerylink id=68903 align=left] According to Marc Stein there are serious trade discussions taking place for a 4 team deal that could see the Magic trade Dwight Howard as well as a few other Magic players.
Only three of the four teams have been the deal so far would look like this:
- Gerald Wallace (from Portland) and Brooke Lopez (from New Jersey)
New Jersey Receives:
- Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu, and Chris Duhon (from Orlando)
- Up to 3 Draft Picks between the two teams
This would be an interesting trade as it wouldn’t completely cripple the Magic. Considering there aren’t many quality big men in the league Brooke Lopez has to be considered a Top 10 if not Top 5 Center in the league, and a starting front court of Lopez, Big Baby, and Wallace could work. It will also be interesting to see who the fourth team would be and if that would benefit Orlando any, you also look at getting rid of Chris Duhon and Hedo Turkoglu’s contracts, and that could lead to the team being able to acquire some quality pieces in the future.
The Nets are showing more urgency to get this deal done after Nene, who they were pursuing decided to re-sign with the Denver Nuggets. For the Magic bring in to durable players, averaging career totals of 13.4 Points per game (ppg), 6.3 Rebounds per game (rpg) in Wallace and 17.4 ppg and 7.6 rpg in Lopez woud definitely soften the blow of losing the best big man in the game. The Magic still haven’t of course ruled out keeping Dwight longer into the season, so we will see how this unfolds.
