Trends: The Roots Come Undun

Influential hip-hop group The Roots are readying their third album in eighteen months, with undun due for release on December 6th.

undun follows two albums, How I Got Over and Wake Up!, both released in 2010. Trends looks at how these albums, and the rest of their catalog, has been scrobbling.

The Roots were formed in Philadelphia in 1993 and have gone on to release ten studio albums. This has led to a current total scrobble count of 23,944,915 , with 2010’s How I Got Over impressively taking the spot of their most popular album with 2,956,299 scrobbles.

Wake Up!, a collaboration with John Legend, was released shortly after and has seen far less scrobbles, with 481,022 plays to date.

The graph below shows just how much of an impact the release of the two albums in 2010 had on their scrobble counts, as the group jumped to around 340,000 weekly scrobbles:

Whilst the hype wasn’t really sustained, tracks from their back catalog are still being scrobbled in strong numbers. “The Seed 2.0” from 2002’s Phrenology was their most listened to track last week with 1,762 listeners.
