Our sister site MP3.com was the first source of digital music discovery when it hit the Web in 1997, and it relaunches today to be the essential in that pursuit. Now it has a Free MP3 of the Day feature that focuses on high-quality songs, each available for a limited 24-hour period.
Today the site ie showcasing GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter [lastfm link_type=””]Brian McKnight’s[/lastfm] modernization of “Fall 5.O” with remarkably subtle auto-tuning and his expected R&B smoothness.

The song is from the forthcoming album Just Me (available July 12), a two-disc set that includes a full studio album and a bonus live disc. McKnight says, “For me, one of the greatest things about this album is that all the new tracks were collaborations between me and my sons BJ & Niko. Under the name C.A.T.S., we wrote and co-produced these tracks with a sound I think the fans are going to love.”
One thing is for certain, the cross-decade mash-up sound effect on “Fall 5. 0” is enchanting. Instead of cycling around a formulaic R&B beat with a melodic passage, McKnight tracks cycle through abstract movements. The result is that McKnight comes off feeling fresh and confident in his new role as a neo-soul troubadour.
