The historic BET Honors aired Monday evening.  The ceremony saluted those who have made significant cultural contributions to the African-American community. Huge names in music, entertainment,  journalism, theater arts and education were celebrated for their even larger legacies.

The televised event was hosted by Gabrielle Union. Those honored included a host of celebrities, educators and human rights advocates. IMAN, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Herbie Hancock[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jamie Foxx[/lastfm], Cicely Tyson, Linda Johnson Rice and Lonnie Bunch were all recognized for their work.
