Some Spellers Call F-O-U-L At National Bee
[lastfm]Anamika Veeramani[/lastfm] from Cleveland, Ohio is the new National Spelling Bee Champion, who says Cleveland can’t win a trophy, but not after a little controversy. Since the Bee was moved to prime time there was an issue with timing, 5 out of the 10 finalists didn’t have to spell a word to make it to the finals. The network was afraid that there wouldn’t be enough spellers to fill the two hour time slot for the finals. This didn’t sit well with some of the other spellers and parents, who complained about it but it was too late as Anamika was crowned the winner after spelling “juvia,” which is a Brazilian nut.
